Privacy Policy

At The Shelf of Unread Books, your privacy is very important.

As an individual blogger, I do not collect or keep any personal information about visitors to my blog – I’m just happy that you’re here and that you want to share in the book love.

However, following on from the recent introduction of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), the following policy briefly outlines how information may be collected and used by WordPress.com when you visit or interact with The Shelf of Unread Books, and also explains what happens if you choose to contact me using the contact form on this blog.

The Shelf of Unread Books is hosted on the WordPress.com free service which provides general information to me on where visitors to my blog come from and which posts/pages have been viewed by them. WordPress.com’s privacy policy can be viewed in full here but, in short, when commenting on any post or page the following information is collected and stored by WordPress:

  • commenter name
  • commenter email address
  • commenter websitesite URL (if provided)
  • date/time comment submitted
  • IP address
  • WordPress account ID & website URL (if logged in via WordPress)
  • Facebook/Twitter/Google+ account ID & website URL (if logged in via these services)

In addition, if you sign up to follow The Shelf of Unread Books, your WordPress ID and/or email is collected and stored. Following the blog will result in you receiving an email when new posts are released on The Shelf. You are free to cancel these emails at any time using the unsubscribe options given in each email.

If using the contact form on this blog the following information is collected and is provided to me:

  • the name that you have given on the contact form
  • your email address as given on the contact form
  • your website URL (if provided)
  • the content of the comment.

Information provided to me in this way will not be shared with any third parties, and I do not keep any personal log of contacts received in this manner, and will be using this information only to respond to your enquiry or comment.

WordPress.com automatically uses cookies (and, alas, not the kind that are chewy and edible) and more information about this can be found here.

Finally, this is a passion project and I blog for free and do not currently monetise The Shelf in any way. Therefore any adverts that you may see are automatically provided by WordPress.com as part of its hosting service and clicking on them is in no way linked to me or to The Shelf. I also do not receive any form of fee from providing links in my posts to third party websites, such as Goodreads, Amazon, Waterstones etc – these are purely there to make finding out more about featured books easier for my readers.

This policy was updated on 13 June 2018 but may be subject to further change at any time and without notice.

If you have any questions or queries about this policy, please do not hesitate to contact me.
